Mosaic Moments January 2013 Newsletter by Tami Potter
Published: Wed, 01/09/13
This year we will be featuring a Mosaic Moments Page by Tami Potter every month. She has many tips, techniques, and inspiration to share. This month we are featuring an 8x8 layout from a previous post on Tami's blog. Here is a peek from the "Inside-Out Pages" post:
There isn't a lot of space on an 8x8 page; so, using multiple large photos isn't really an option. One of the techniques I like to use on 8x8 Mosaic Moments pages is embedding. Embedding is a way to sort of wrap an image around another image.

January's Mosaic Moments Challenge is Photos inspired by Dr. Seuss
The Design Team will post their Dr. Seuss inspired pages starting January 15th. You can join in the fun by also posting your pages in January on Journella.com.
Directions: Choose a Dr. Seuss story and let it inspire the photos you take/use. In addition, let the story inspire the following:
- Page Title
- Journaling
- Fonts used on your page
- Colors used
Design Requirements: use 1 inch (photo or paper) squares as a design
In your Journella Post you should include the name of the Dr Seuss book that you chose for inspiration.
Here is an idea for a Dr. Seuss inspired Mosaic Moments Page:
One of Dr. Seuss' books is "In a People House." This book can inspire you to create a Mosaic Moments page about your house. Photograph everyone who lives in your house. Photograph the rooms or your favorite things about your home. You can also take photographs of your home through your pet's perspective. These are just a few ideas to help you get started. If you need more inspiration, check out Seussville.com to see all of the books written by Dr. Seuss. We can't wait to see what ideas and inspiration you have created!
How to Embellish and Enhance Cornerstones
This month we are featuring how to enhance Cornerstones on the Design Each Moment Blog. Here is an example of how to use a White Cornerstone and Make it the color of your choosing:
One way to make a white Cornerstone into a different color is by using Chalk Ink or stamp ink. The only thing you have to do is spread the ink on the Cornerstone. Spread the ink on evenly to get a solid color. If you would like to see more examples and ideas on enhancing your Cornerstones, visit the Design Each Moment Blog.
Here is a sample page using the Chalk Inked 2013 Cornerstone:
"What a Pair" supplies used: This page was created using Mosaic Moments White 8x8 grid paper. It also has Carob Cream and White Paper Tiles(TM) . A White 2013 Cornerstone (covered with green chalk ink) and a Pear Cornerstone (directions to put in different color backgrounds is also on theDesign Each Moment Blog) were used as embellishments.
Tip: Notice how I made the 8x8 White grid paper into a green color. To do this I used Glimmer Mist. If you would like to learn more about this method, visitTami's blog post "Getting a Little Misty".

Here is a peek at Tami's first Mosaic Moments Inspired Photo post:
I took several photos of the back side of my purse (it is the largest pattern area - uninterrupted by seams or pockets) This was my favorite shot. It was Minnie's red skirt that sold me on the purse. Can't wait to cut it up and make a mosaic moment!

Three Rows with Mosaic Detailing
Page Pattern Description: This pattern is made up of three different rows.
Top Row: On the left and right sides are 3.25w x 2.125h blocks with rows of three 1 in. squares above them. A 4.375w x 3.25h block sits in the middle.
Middle Row: This row consists of two 4.75w x 3.25h blocks with a two by three area column of 1 in. squares in the center.
Bottom Row: There are two sets of 3.25 squares with a row of three 1 in. squares below them. A 4.375 block is in the center.
"Snow Day 2009" supplies used:
This page was created using January's featured grid paper 12x12 Storm. January's Featured Paper Tiles(TM) Caribbean Breeze, Tropical Breeze, and Ocean Breeze were also used on this page. Pattern paper from BasicGrey's Eskimo Kisses 6x6 paper pad and BasicGrey's Eskimo Kisses alphabet stickers were used as embellishments.
Tip: See the snow in the 3.25w x 2.125h blocks near the top of the page? To create this effect, just take a white piece of paper and rip in half. It's that simple! In this case, I took two white 3.25w x 2.125 blocks and ripped them in half horizontally. Then I laid them on top of the Tropical Breeze, and Ocean Breeze 3.25w x 2.125h blocks.

Mini Calenders sized to fit Mosaic Moments Grid
This month we are featuring the Mini Calenders Free Download. This Free Download is great for showing off a really busy month or to show off a few different months during the year. The mini calenders are great for a page at the beginning of a particular scrapbook album or a specific section.
Here is an example Mosaic Moments page using a Mini Calendar
This page shows off December 2010. This was a particularly eventful month because of preparations for the wedding. I put the calendar in the center as the focal point and I put many photos all around to show the details of what happened during the month. As you may tell - a lot was going on! This download is also great to show the dates of a particular vacation or other big event.
"December 2010" supplies used: This page was created using January's feature grid paper: 12x12 Storm. This page also uses this month's feature MIni Calendars Free Download.
Tip: How did I cut out all those photos? I used a punch! Creating a page like this is quick and easy using a 1in. punch and a 2.125 square punch.
