"Spring Flowers of Colonial Williamsburg" by Paije Potter - Pattern #167
Mosaic style page patterns use mostly 1x1" squares.
There are a lot of variations, but with these patterns you'll have larger areas to create the 1x1" photo mosaics. Pattern #160 is the layout design that began the whole Mosaic Moments System with a full 12x12 page of 1x1
inch photo squares. Tami blended numerous photos together for a 'one large photo' look. And thus, creating the Mosaic Magic which tricks your eye - that we all love so much!
Did Paije create Mosaic Magic, above? Are the flower mosaics one photo? Two? Three?
She also used some of her 1x1 mosaic sections for embellishing touches like the patterned paper and 1x1" 8 Petal dies with gems for centers. Mosaic Patterns are not only used for photos, they are truly adaptable for the look you need for your layout.
Strip patterns use 1" strips, usually to make panoramas that can be as short as covering 2 grid squares (like above) or as long as you want.
You can cut the strips with dies or hand-cut them with a craft knife, ruler, and a mat. You can blend many photos together to create a panorama across your page making Mosaic Magic or use them for patterned paper and embellishments. They are great for landscapes and cityscapes.
There are patterns that include vertical strips too, like Pattern #559, and those can be really fun to use.
Symmetrical patterns are exactly the same on either side of your page, right and left as if you drew a straight line down the center of your grid paper.
Symmetrical patterns play by the rules that our brains recognize, which make these patterns easy on the eyes. They can include a lot of different design spots. And, just because the pattern is symmetrical doesn't mean all of your photos and embellishments will be the same.
The differences will naturally draw your eyes around the layout, as you notice when you look at Jodi's photos, above.
