Sometimes I create a die and I know exactly what I want to name it. Sometimes selecting a name takes a bit of creative stretching. Then, there are times when a name is the result of an Oops.
I was really struggling to decide on a name for one of our dies. Then, this play by Oscar Wilde came to mind, The Importance of Being Earnest. The word earnest stuck in my head.
I decided on Earnest for the name after looking up the meaning of the word. It means: a portion of something, given or done in advance as a pledge of the remainder.
It seemed a perfect fit for the die with portions of circles. However, when the package insert was made there was a typo we didn't notice. The letter 'a' was dropped (Oops!) and the name was printed as Ernest.
It seems, like the play by Oscar Wilde, we had a bit of confusion about Ernest.
Have a you're-worth-it week!
Happy Scrappin'

Ernest Die Set
"Haystack Rock Beach" by Jodi Benson - Pattern #368
Ernest is a 2x4 die that comes with four extra pieces that fit inside each part of the die. It has four half circles that you can place side by side, and they will appear as whole circles
Jodi used her Ernest die cuts to crop beach photos in the center cross section of her layout. She filled the inside portion with yellow and white sea star patterned paper. Jodi made sure she used brightly colored pattern paper for her dies and photo corners to brighten up these cloudy day spring photos on the beach.
Paije made a beautiful mosaic with the Soft Corner Grid die, and split it in half with the five vertical 2x4 photos in the center of the page.
Paije intentionally used photos of a tree filled area for the Soft Corners mosaic to contrast the blue sky and ocean photos in the center section. This contrast perfectly illustrates her spring trip at the Pacific Coast.
The Soft Corners dies include the Soft Corner Grid Die and the Soft Corner Grid Pieces Die.
The Soft Corner Grid Die cuts a 4x6 photo into six rounded octagon pieces. The Soft Corner Grid Pieces Die comes with 2x2 soft corner dies that'll give you a layer or an outline, a die that cuts four circles to lay on top of the corners, and a die that cuts 16 pie shapes to fill the empty corners of the die.
Puff N Stuff is a 3x4 die that creates an outline of a cloud-like shape inside a rectangle.
Notice how Jodi used Puff N Stuff placed around her page with dotted patterned paper, and it makes a lovely rounded frame for a center photo. It also created a rotational rhythm, and created balance for the whole layout. Jodi used blossom photos and the same pattern paper around her layout making that rhythm and repetition show up even
more.
